The maintenance plant of the German train company "Deutsche Bahn" in Basel, Switzerland, was originally intended in 1913 for maintenance and repair of former passenger cars and locomotives.
With the decision to procure the new ICE4 fleet and the associated systems from 2018, there was a need to upgrade and expand the infrastructure of the "Deutsche Bahn". According to the directive of the upper management, it was a key milestone with the new timetable for 2020, that the new ICE4 will serve the route to Basel.
In this context, key targets for this project were the completion of the reconstruction works prior to the new valid timetable and to master the associated challenges of realizing the complete project during normal plant operation without its impairment. The simultaneous application of Swiss and German rules and regulations is an additional challenge.
The Infrastructure team of Drees & Sommer Switzerland is appointed to provide project management and construction supervision tasks and to take over key project controlling functions. Christian Heidecker, Jens Baumann, Lukas Eberhardt, Stephan Mock and Tim Eisele are delighted to this project success – in time and budget.
