Construction of the new HUMA Shopping Centre in eastern Vienna is scheduled for the end of 2017. Covering an area of 50,000 square metres, it will become one of the city's largest and most up-to-date shopping centres. The first phase of construction for the new facility began on March 3, 2016.
The shopping temple was previously housed in a building more than 30 years old. To make room for the new building, that structure was demolished in 2014. A new building to replace it has been taking shape for the past year. During construction of this portion of the building, operations continued with the main anchor tenants – such as Interspar, Media Markt, H&M, New Yorker and McDonald’s – in a transitional space located immediately nearby. During the second phase of construction, this will also be replaced by a new building for the remaining tenants.
When it is all finished, the two-storey mall will house more than 90 shops along with food retailers and service providers. Convenient transport connections and 2,000 free parking stalls will add to the shopping centre's attractiveness to customers and visitors.
Drees & Sommer is managing the project through to its completion in September 2017. As part of its project management, the consulting firm ensures timely execution in accordance with the approved project budget.
